USEPA Brownfield Grants

Linebach Funkhouser, Inc. was recently selected as the Consulting Firm to manage three of the five USEPA Community-Wide Brownfield Assessment Grants awarded in the State of Kentucky in 2020. The communities receiving the grants were the City of Middlesboro, the City of Frankfort, and the Kentucky River Area Development District (KRADD), which encompasses an eight-county area of eastern Kentucky. LFI was selected over numerous other firms to manage the grants based on LFI’s extensive experience and after meeting the rigorous qualification and presentation requirements for each of the communities.

The primary purposes of grant monies, totaling $1.1 million, will be to help revitalize and redevelop impaired and shuttered properties back to productive use. To that end, LFI will work with public and private-sector entities to develop inventories of brownfield sites, support community outreach programs, complete Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments, analyze brownfield clean-up alternatives, and develop cost estimates for clean-up.
