Angel's Envy

Louisville, KY
FROM BROWNFIELD TO BOURBON DISTILLERY

Angel’s Envy is a hand-crafted, small batch bourbon produced by Louisville Distilling Company.  When they took on an old industrial property and complicated brownfield site to develop their new distillery in downtown Louisville, LFI was there every step of the way.

LFI assessed the property for a variety of environmental issues before purchase by Louisville Distilling Co., including soil and groundwater impacts that were already known to exist, the presence of asbestos-containing material, lead-based paint and mold, and indoor ambient air conditions. Each of these issues had to be addressed during redevelopment of the property.  LFI guided Louisville Distilling Co. throughout asbestos, lead paint and mold abatement, as well as the design and installation of vapor barriers.  Additionally, LFI handled air and water permitting processes during construction of the distillery.  LFI also obtained closure of the property through the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection’s (KDEP’s) managed closure program; precursor to the current Kentucky Brownfield Redevelopment Program.
